New Face, Who Dis?

Ok, you spoke and I listened. According to my insta stories poll the majority of you want to know more about the advanced skin treatments I offer at the salon.

The last 12-18 months, advanced skin care in particular has really come to the fore front in the beauty industry with the introduction of new treatments & innovative product ingredients that deliver fast and visible results.

The world we live in is changing rapidly and the demand for treatments that provide 'instant' results is bigger than ever. When i fist posted the poll asking what topic you guys wanted me to write about, I underestimated how huge the topic of 'Advanced Skin Treatments' actually is, I could go on for days but I appreciate most of you have lives to get back to so I will do another post on this subject in the future!

Pro Power Peel

Pro Power Peel is the latest professional treatment from Dermalogica. It is their strongest chemical peel to date and is completely customizable to suit a range of skin concerns and it can even be used on sensitive skin.

So, what is a chemical peel? Why do i think its the best thing since sliced bread? Let me explain..

Chemical peels, generally acids, are designed to remove surface skin cells revealing smoother and clearer skin. Cell turnover (the rate at which your skin cells replicate) slows dramatically as we age, from approx. 20 days in young-middle age adults to over 30 days in older adults. The slower our cells are turning over, it affects the texture and appearance of the skin. We may experience fine lines and wrinkles, acne and hyper-pigmentation (areas of darker skin cells). Chemical peels are one of the most effective ways to address these changes we see in our skin.

I offer 2 options when it comes to chemical peels; professional treatment or an at home version. Obviously the at home peel is no where near as strong as the pro version but it is still incredibly effective as an exfoliation and it works as the perfect prep for the Pro Power Peel, especially if you are new to chemical peels, it is important to build up your skins tolerance.

You can see amazing results after one Pro Power Peel treatment, however, it may be beneficial to have a short course of treatments depending on the results you want to achieve. For this reason, I ask everyone wanting to book a peel to have a consultation and patch test first.

What will I experience? During your chemical peel treatment, you may experience some tingling or heat, personally i think 'prickly' is good description for this, as it starts to work but it literally lasts for a couple of minutes. Its not painful and I use cooling methods to calm the skin down afterwards.

Post Peel Tips

  • Your skin may peel and feel tight for a few days, a bit like sunburn, this is normal but please don't pick or rub!

  • Stay out of the sun and wear SPF daily (you may want to bear holidays in mind when booking your appointment)

  • Follow my home care advice, use the post procedure kit I give you for 72 hours after wards and drop me a message if you have any concerns.

  • Avoid excessive heat such as saunas, sunbeds, hot baths or showers and waxing or exfoliation for a few days.

Next up I am going to talk to you about my most popular skin treatment since introducing it at the end of last year..

Dermaplaning

Simply put, dermaplaning is a safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine, vellus hair (peach fuzz). It has been used for many years but has only recently come in to the mainstream of beauty treatments and is growing in popularity week on week.

We use an incredibly sharp surgical scalpel and a feather light touch to gently abrade the surface of the skin. Now, I know what you may think.. I thought the exact same when i first heard of this treatment! Am i going to grow a beard?! Not sure Chewbacca is the look i want to achieve! But I did a hell of a lot of research in to this treatment before I decided to train in it. In actual fact, it is physiologically impossible to change the soft vellus hair in to a thick terminal hair as it is a completely different structure and type of hair. Think water in to wine, they are both liquids but you can't turn one in to the other. Unless you're Jesus, which I am not haha! Anyway..

What are the benefits of this treatment?

  • Removes dead skin

  • Removes peach fuzz hair

  • Instant brightening

  • Aids absorption of face creams/serums

  • Provides silky smooth base for makeup application

Dermaplaning can be done on its own as a stand alone treatment or results can be enhanced by combining it with other treatments such as my A-Lift facial (which i will talk about shortly) or by adding a gentle enzyme peel. Pro Power Peel is too strong but I have other peels which can be added in to the dermaplane treatment. Just let me know if you want to add this on during your treatment!

Another question i get asked a lot about dermaplaning is does it hurt? I promise you it does not hurt in the slightest, in fact its actually super relaxing.

If you are thinking about getting this treatment done there are a few points you must remember first:

  • Stop use of exfoliating products (including retinol) 72 hours prior

  • You must not have active cold sores

  • I can't treat active acne - sorry! (Pro Power Peel would be better for you!)

  • If you take blood thinning meds I can't treat you either - sorry again!

  • You must wait 12 months after taking accutane or isotretinoins

If you are unsure or just want to have a chat about whether this treatment is right for you, I always offer complimentary 15 min consultations for all of my treatments, just ask!

A-Lift

Last up, I want to tell you about A-Lift. Unlike the previous 2 treatments, this facial uses electrical current to lift and tighten facial muscles as well as boosting cell turnover by 500%! (Remember earlier we talked about cell turnover slowing down the older we get, this treatment is like giving your gran 4 tins of red bull and 10 shots espresso, she's going to be bouncing off the walls!) So by boosting cell turnover, we are speeding up the production of natural collagen making the skin plumper and giving it that lush firm bounce to the touch.

If you are a bit of a geek like me then you'll love this science-ey bit!

How does this machine actually work? A-Lift uses unique nano-current technology (measured in millionths of an amp) that are in sync with the unique natural frequency of the body to 're-charge' cells. The theory is not new, since 1965 scientists have been studying the effects of electrical stimulation on the bodies own bioelectric system. However, scientists have been unable to create a usable technology capable of aligning itself with the individuals own electric frequency - until now! The A-Lift treatment has been designed on medical research to activate and imitate the bodies natural cell regeneration process. Mind blown!

So what results can you expect to see from this treatment? Lines and wrinkles are reduced - massivley! Your skin will be firmer, plumper, smoother and facial muscles will be lifted and tightened. As I mentioned earlier, the A-Lift can be combined with dermaplaning so you get that ultra smooth, resurfacing as well. Winning!

I hope you have enjoyed my very first blog post! I hope it has helped you understand some of the more advanced treatments i offer. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about these or any of my other treatments.
